Photographers tend to work in a specific genre like wedding photography, newborn, family, senior portraits, headshots, etc. Focusing their knowledge and resources in their specific genre to provide their clients with the best product.

That depends on their field of photography. Some photographers have overhead like a studio, or provide products for their clients as well as maintaining professional equipment. The professional photographer continually updates their photo equipment and software.
